Meet Our mentors
Eric Racelis (Program Coordinator)
My name is Eric, and I am the Youth and Skatepark Coordinator here at the YMCA. I have been with the YMCA for just over a year now and this will be my first year supporting the skatepark mentorship program. I’m passionate about creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where riders of all skill levels can learn, progress, and build confidence.
My focus is on youth engagement, program development, and helping create positive experiences through events, lessons, and community programming.
I enjoy working with participants, supporting staff, and helping make the skatepark a fun and supportive space for everyone.
Kaelan Klessens (Lead Mentor)
Hello, I’m Kaelan, an ex professional scooter rider, with over 12+ years of experience. I’ve been given amazing opportunities with this sport over the course of my youth and am excited to give back to the community. Being able to give back with my passion for riding and giving the flame I had when I was younger to the community is something that I’ve always been passionate and grateful about.
I am excited to join the team this year in a Lead Mentor role!
Matthew McLean (Lead Mentor)
Hi my name is Matthew! I have been scootering for 11 years. My favourite trick is Hurricane on a hand rail. I joined the team for my 3rd year as a Lead Mentor to help keep the skate park a clean and safe space for all.
When I'm not at the skatepark I am snowboarding or mountain biking.
Jacob Kopriva (Mentor)
My name is Jacob! I have been skateboarding for 5 years now. My favorite trick is a backside flip. I chose to be a skatepark mentor because I enjoy creating a safe and welcoming environment for youth who might feel uncomfortable or nervous coming to the skatepark.
When I am not skateboarding, I am usually playing video games or playing pool.
Sophie Hunter (Mentor)
Hi, my name is Sophie! I’ve been skateboarding for around two and a half years, and my favourite trick at the moment is a heelflip. I was inspired to become a skatepark mentor because I’m passionate about creating a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and supported.
I love encouraging others to stay positive, build confidence, and spread kindness within the skate community.
Outside of skateboarding, I enjoy going for runs and practicing handstands.
Austin Arsenault (Mentor)
Hi, my name is Austin, I have been skateboarding for 6 years and my favorite trick is a backside lipslide. I wanted to become a skatepark mentor because it is my goal to make the skatepark a safer environment, while also acting as a role model and offering assistance to anyone at the skatepark.
When I am not skateboarding, you can find me rock climbing or doing things I love.
Baxter Hunter (Mentor)
Hi, I’m Baxter and I have been skateboarding for 3 years. My favourite trick is a frontside 5-0. The main reason I wanted to become a skatepark mentor at the YMCA is to foster a supportive and nurturing environment while being a positive influence to all who attend, regardless of age or background. When I am not skateboarding, I enjoy running and watching movies.
Ayla Martens (Mentor)
Hi, my name is Ayla. I've been skateboarding for around 4 years and my favourite trick are boardslides. I chose to become a skatepark mentor because I want to share my passion for the sport and make the skatepark a safe space. I love hanging out and meeting new people, and encouraging people to do their best.
When I'm not on my skateboard, I enjoy snowboarding and being in the mountains.
